A CHAT WITH UNCLE STRUT
MEET UNCLE STRUT: From Canada Eh!
Band Wearing: Chip Magnet, Sublime, Purple People Eater & Surf Zombies.
Where did you get your band name from?
Our band name came from a drunken evening when we were all just tossing out random ideas. The wildcards was one idea we had, someone tossed out Uncle Plunger and the Clogged Pipes as an option and somewhere through the night someone said “Uncle Strut”. It was the only idea that all of us didn't hate.
What's the one venue you love playing at the most, and what makes it so special?
The Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver is our favourite venue to play. It’s got incredible sound, an awesome room and the standing area is sloped so even short people can see the stage.
What's been your biggest gig to date, and what was the vibe like?
Our biggest gig was opening for The Goo Goo Dolls at the Calgary Stampede in 2024. The vibe was very professional and everyone went crazy for the Goo Goo Dolls. The lead singer lost his cool on stage though, and was yelling at his whole tech crew, it was wild!
What got you into music in the first place - what's that spark that keeps you going?
All of us have been involved in music since we were kids. We all love different types of music but our collaboration is what keeps things exciting for us. There’s no feeling like creating a brand new song with your best buddies.
If you could collaborate with any musician, who’d it be and why?
It’s gotta be Paul McCartney right? The biggest living legend.
What’s something you’re really looking forward to in the band’s future?
We just put out our first album and are about to go on tour, so we’re really excited for that! We’ve also started writing our second album and are heading back into the studio in August.
What’s the one song you never get tired of performing live and why does it slap so hard?
We always love performing our cover of That’s Alright (Mama), it goes so hard live and the crowd always loses their minds which is an awesome feeling. That along with our first song ‘Down South’ are the only tracks we’ve played at all 100 of our shows.
What’s the weirdest or most memorable fan interaction you’ve had at a show?
One dude got arrested for public urination INSIDE THE VENUE. Who does that??
& Finally! Bird & Hill’s been smashing out lid after lid. With goals to have over 100 styles by December, have you got any graphics or cooked ideas you’d like to see us mock up and drop?
